Joy Village is partnering with the Apogee Scholarship Fund to make our school accessible to more families!

How is this scholarship fund possible?

In 2008 the Georgia State Legislature passed HB 1133, permitting Georgia taxpayers to donate up to $58 million tax dollars to private schools of their choice. Most recently this cap was raised to $200 million! This part of the tax law is called the Qualified Education Expense Credit Program.

What does this mean for donors?

For every dollar you contribute to the Joy Village Scholarship Fund, the state will credit one dollar towards your tax payments. That means either one dollar towards your tax payments or one dollar added to your tax refund. Bottom line: this donation will cost you nothing! This is money you would be paying the state anyway. Why not spend it on a quality, culturally safe education for a deserving student?

How much can I contribute?

You may contribute any amount up to the limits listed below.

  • Individual Filer: Maximum of $2,500

  • Married Filing Separately: Maximum of $2,500

  • Married Filing Jointly: Maximum of $5,000

  • Individuals who receive pass-through income can contribute up to $25,000

  • C-Corporation: Up to 75% of GA tax liability

Is this different from a deduction?

Yes. A tax credit is more beneficial to the taxpayer than a strict deduction, because it reduces your tax burden dollar-for-dollar while a deduction reduces the amount of taxable income on which your tax burden is calculated.

What is Apogee’s role?

Apogee Georgia School Choice Fund is a 501(c)3 and a designated SSO (Student Scholarship Organization) as defined by the Georgia Quality Education Expense Credit Program. They manage the program donations and scholarship applications, and have been chosen by Joy Village to manage our scholarship fund.

What do I have to do to participate?

  1. Simply click the link below to complete a donor application, which includes designating Joy Village as the recipient school. This should take less than 2 minutes!

  2. Once you apply, Apogee will get you approved as a donor by the Georgia Department of Revenue. You will receive an email notice once you have been approved.

  3. After you’ve been approved, you will have 60 days to submit your payment. You can do this on the Apogee website or by mailing a check.

  4. Once your contribution is received, you will receive documentation that you are eligible for a tax credit towards your Georgia taxes in the same amount for the current tax year (e.g. the contribution you make in 2022 will go toward your 2022 tax return filed by April 2023.)
